Celestine Woodworks - Cutting Board Care Instructions: Do’s and Don’ts
Do’s:
- Clean Properly: To clean your cutting board, scrub with hot soapy water without submerging. Rinse thoroughly and towel dry.
- Drying: Let the board dry for a few hours in a rack or standing on its side.
- Drying: Use Celestine Woodworks Cutting Board Conditioner or mineral oil for maintenance. If the board is used as a display only, condition it once every 2-3 months. For regular use, condition it after every couple of uses, or more frequently if the board appears dry.
- Oil Completely: Oil the board on all sides and edges every time you condition it. This prevents warping by ensuring even moisture distribution.
- Store Carefully: Store the board in a perfectly flat area or standing it up on its side to prevent warping. If lying flat, use feet on the board to allow both sides to breathe. ● Choose Low Light: Store in a low-light area to protect the wood from UV damage.
Don’ts:
- Avoid Excess Moisture: Do not let the board sit wet for long periods, and do not place it in a sink full of water. This can cause the wood to warp or crack.
- No Dishwashers or Microwaves: Never wash the cutting board in the dishwasher. Do not use it in the microwave or oven, and do not use it as a hot plate.
- Avoid Edible Oils: Do not use edible oils (like olive oil, vegetable oil, or sunflower oil) for conditioning, as these can spoil and become rancid.
- Keep Away from Direct Light: UV light will darken all woods, pulling red and purple hues from exotic woods and turning them brown. Avoid storing in direct light or very brightly lit rooms to maintain the board's natural luster and color.
